On behalf of the whole community of Digger Rest the Lions Club wish to congratulate Diggers Rest's Lydia Lassila on her amazing Gold Medal win at this years Winter Olympics.

Australia's Centenary of Flight
On 18 March 1910, Harry Houdini made the first controlled, powered flight in Australia, at Digger's Rest, Melbourne, Victoria. March 2010 will mark the 100th anniversary of that famous flight. Join in the celebration at Diggers Rest and find out about the celebrations all around Australia.

On 18 March 1910, Harry Houdini conducted the first controlled, powered flight in an aeroplane in Australia. Houdini's flight changed the landscape of Australia forever, and today the concept of flying is considered neither fanciful nor impossible - it is simply part of our every day life.
The year 2010 in Australia thus serves as the Centenary of Australian Aviation, and Bendigo pilots Tim Pryse and Ken Evers have developed an exciting project that uniquely commemorates this iconic time in Australian history.
On 20 March 2010, 100 years after Houdini's flight, Ken Evers and Tim Pryse will take off from Bendigo, Victoria in an Australian Gippsland Aeronautics GA8-TC Airvan and fly around the world and into aviation history as this will be the very first Australian designed and manufactured aircraft to ever circumnavigate the globe!
Once the flight commences, you will be able to view Ken and Tim's progress around the world through the amazing technology provided by one of their sponsors: IndigoSat. You will also be able to read their blog as they complete each flight leg.
