Festival of Flight

These events celebrate Australian aviation history which was created on 18 March 1910 when the famous American escapologist Harry Houdini made the first powered controlled flight of an aircraft in Australia at Diggers Rest.

At dawn on that day, Houdini flew his Voisin Biplane aircraft from a paddock at Diggers Rest, and so became the first person in Australia to make a powered, controlled flight. There had been attempts by others, but those flights were uncontrolled.

The magic of the flight, according to Houdini, was in the "glorious thrill" of first adventure, and "not in minor modification which is perpetual in any art".

Daryl Braithwaite will be on stage singing his famous songs.

Cosentino, International Illusionist and three times Australian award winning magician, will perform amazing feats on stage.

The aircraft & auto show will display: vintage & classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, fire engines, new age engines and prototypes, steam engines, model airplanes, and airplanes of history, and restorations.

Local history memorabilia, magicians, market stalls, art displays, local produce, kids entertainment and more.

Event Patrons will be given the chance to WIN a Top Gun Adrenalin Adventure package. Package includes return flights to Tasmania for two, accommodation, adrenalin adventure in Top Gun plane for one, scenic flight to watch Top Gun plane for one, embroidered bomber jacket and a DVD of your experience.
